Your Role:

As an Accounting Manager, you will report to the Vice President of Finance and work closely with executive management and the Accounting teams to support financial operations. This on-site role in Royal Oak, Michigan, requires preparing financial statements, analyzing subcontractor qualifications, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, compliance, and variance from budget and history.

  • Perform timely balance sheet analysis (e.g., A/R and provision for doubtful accounts, fixed assets additions/disposals, basis, and appropriateness of accruals) with proper follow-up.

  • Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with GAAP.

  • Bring best practices to working paper preparation and balance sheet analysis.

  • Train to be prepared as a backup to the Controller.

  • Formalize, write-up, update, and enforce financial policies and procedures.

  • Become a subject matter expert in the use of the new Accounting ERP.

  • Lead A/P management by ensuring all supporting documents are gathered and prepared (e.g., invoices, insurance, liability release).

  • Prepare to be a payroll backup.

  • Prepare data for taxes, e.g., personal property and use taxes.

  • Prepare a daily 13-week cash forecast.

  • Apprise management of financial and business risks.

  • Assist with both internal and external audits.

  • Provide necessary training to accounting staff, including cross-training, staff development, and succession planning.

  • Create an atmosphere that encourages employees to use their initiatives and pursue professional development towards advancement.

  • Handle other special projects as they arise.

  • Contribute to the quality of working relationships, office efficiency, and overall business success through a positive and productive attitude towards work, fellow employees, and customers.

Requirements

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree accounting, recognized accounting designation, or equivalent.

  • Minimum of seven years of experience in accounting, preferably in construction accounting.

  • Solid accounting experience including general ledger, A/R, A/P, financial statement preparation, and preparing working papers.

  • Supervisory experience in managing subordinates.

  • Ability to perform under pressure and time constraints.

  • Computer literate with in-depth knowledge of Accounting ERP (Acumatica a plus) and Excel.

  • Analytical, team-player, with good communication skills.
