Summary:
NRG is seeking a Financial Analyst to help support the Legal Department. This candidate is expected to become the segment expert within the department, taking full ownership of the department’s financial budgeting, forecasting, analysis and reporting duties while staying closely coordinated with the Director of Legal Operations.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Drive the annual budgeting process whileworking with the General Counsel in preparation and presentation of the Outside Counsel Legal spend and the corporate functions in the Legal Department
Monthly review and variance analysis of the Outside Counsel Actuals vs. Budget across the entire company
Monthly review and variance analysis of the G&A Actuals vs. Budget for the functions that make up the Legal Department
Accurate and timely submittal of the quarterly accrual reports to Corporate Accounting
Monthly meetings with the General Counsel on the department’s financial results and ensure he understands the drivers and opportunities for the department
Preparation and input of quarterly forecast numbers and annual budget numbers into our financial planning system
Responsible for the monthly reporting and analysis of personnel costs within the Legal Department including tracking open positions
Prepare, analyze and provide recommendations on a monthly synergy report to make sure we are hitting our targets
Serve as the legal financial reporting liaison between the legal department and the various corporate functions (Accounting, FP&A, Talent) while continually seeking opportunities to improve processes
Become a high-end user of our outside counsel billing system to run spend reports and make rate decisions for the law firms we work with in adherence with our rate guidelines
Assist attorneys responsible for oversight of legal matters to ensure outside counsel spend remains within budget
Provide the correct accounting codes to our internal stakeholders on new outside counsel matters as well as Legal Department G&A expenses
Prepare, analyze and provide recommendations on ad hoc reports that are requested by the General Counsel and others at the company
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or economics from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of two years of finance experience in operations or FP&A within the energy industry or in a shared services model.
Preferred Qualifications:
2-5 years of finance experience in operations or FP&A within the energy industry or in a shared services model
Highly proficient in the operation of computers and windows-based software and advanced knowledge of Excel
Proficient in Power BI, FPR and Legal Tracker is a plus
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s)
Forward thinker and self-starter who can follow directions but will also go the extra step
Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
High level of motivation and aptitude for problem solving with strong attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal skills as this position requires significant interface with outside stakeholders and the senior management team
Demonstrated ability to present budget/forecast analyses and support annual budget presentations to the CEO
Ability to use, retrieve and analyze data from multiple applications (SAP, FPR, Legal Tracker, etc.)
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines within a fast-paced environment
Excels in quickly conceptualizing and assimilating data to make decisions and take appropriate action
Good written skills to document processes, policies and procedures
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Able to take a leadership role in a team to establish plans, coordinate activities, and assure successful completion of objectives
Working Conditions:
Hybrid work schedule; a combination of working remotely from home and 3 days a week in the office
Open office environment
Some overtime required especially around budget time
Limited travel if any
