The Corporate Affairs & Communications (CA&C) department serves as the voice of and for American Express, with responsibility for Public Affairs & Media Relations, Colleague Communications, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Social Media. Within CA&C, the Corporate Communications team handles communications for American Express’ business strategy and financial performance, brand and reputation, digital innovation, social media communications and the company’s external corporate content strategy.

The Manager - Data Analytics & Statistician role for the American Express external content team will play a critical role in enabling faster, more accurate decision making and provide predictive analytics through a thorough gathering and interpretation of various data sets, as well as social listening and monitoring. This role on the Corporate Communications team reports to the Vice President Content and offers an exciting opportunity to drive innovation and better-informed directionality in how American Express communicates its key priorities and initiatives to its customers, colleagues, and communities.

The person in this role will be responsible for defining and utilizing data, data models and relationships, and other statistical methods to accurately measure the conversation around the American Express brand, its corporate reputation and related campaigns and issues. The ideal candidate will assess and interpret findings from data capture to identify patterns, relationships and potential pitfalls to help accurately predict a life cycle of conversation and action and map the existing state of play.

This person will also manage an external agency dedicated to real-time, around-the-clock social listening and work in tandem with agency stakeholders on reporting back to internal American Express colleagues. Finally, this person will analyze performance data of our external channels to help optimize content performance and inform future content creation, mix and frequency.

The ideal candidate is someone with deep experience in data analytics and data integration, with the ability to read and analyze data diagrams, models, and relationships. They must be adept at connecting the dots among all these inputs to craft together thoughtful, actionable analysis reports and share-outs, and have the confidence and comfort to serve as counsel for senior leadership on these topics. A collaborative attitude and ability to work independently, as well as within a team, in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment is a must.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Create, evaluate, and interpret data inputs, models, relationships and social conversation to provide accurate assessments that inform better decision-making.

  • Oversee reporting of these assessments in both real-time instances and on a systemic basis to better understand levers such as conversation topics, volumes, key themes, sentiment, engagement and share of voice, among others.

  • Partner with the VP, Content, colleagues across the American Express internal and external communications team, as well as colleagues in marketing, IT, insights, and other stakeholder groups to paint a holistic picture of American Express’ corporate and brand reputation and key initiatives.

  • Work in tandem with colleagues to measure impact of owned content by tracking engagement and performance and refine content mix accordingly.

  • Serve as trusted subject matter expert on data analytics, and counselor on these topics for senior leadership.

  • Remain up to date with emerging platforms, trends and best practices and regularly share your perspective.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7 years’ experience in data analytics, content optimization, social listening and statistician roles.

  • Knowledge and extensive use of Adobe and Google Analytics, Salesforce, Tableau, social intelligence platforms such as Brandwatch, Talkwalkers, Affinio/Audiense or similar, and platforms such as Sprinklr, Khoros, among others.

  • Ability to read and interpret data, data models, diagrams and relationships, and write strong queries to get desired outputs.

  • Ability to build proprietary dashboards a must, as is the facility to translate these data inputs to different audiences who have varied levels of familiarity with data capture analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, Powerpoint, etc.) for reporting use.

  • Proficiency working in a highly matrixed environment; Excellent communication and collaboration skills, agility, and knack for forging strong relationships with a wide range of internal partners.

  • Strong time management and project management skills; Comfort level working independently and within a wider team, and under tight deadlines.

  • Willingness to dive into new opportunities and work with a "no task is too small" attitude.

Qualifications

Salary Range: $80,000.00 to $155,000.00 annually bonus benefits
