Purpose

Analysts in Global Investment Banking enjoy a stimulating and challenging work environment in which they execute a broad range of transactions.

The role focuses on preparing client presentations, financial modeling and research. With experience, Analysts take on increased responsibilities including directing transactions and participating in business development with the guidance of senior group members.

On any given project, Analysts will interact with other departments of the firm such as Mergers & Acquisitions, Equity Capital Markets, Debt Capital Markets, Corporate Banking, Global Loan Syndications, Derivatives, and/or Foreign Exchange, gaining knowledge and understanding of both investment banking and the capital markets. Scotiabank brings new Analysts in contact with clients and senior investment bankers at the earliest possible stage, allowing them to gain experience in managing and cultivating client relationships. Standards are very high as most work is presented to senior executives at client firms.

Accountabilities

  • Evaluating and analyzing the financial needs of corporate clients, including the development of financial models.

  • Preparing marketing materials and presentations.

  • Generally supporting client pitches and deal execution efforts.

  • Financial and written analysis of companies and industries, including the development of valuation models, pro-forma financial statements and comparable company analysis, etc.

  • Participate in drafting prospectuses and marketing presentations for transactions.

  • Preparing client presentations (including compiling data and assembling presentation materials).

  • Applying product and capital markets knowledge to help clients achieve their financial objectives.

  • Participate in all stages of transaction execution, from the pitch phase through to closing.

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Education / Experience

  • Ideal candidate will possess a relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification.

  • Proven record of outstanding achievement in academic and extracurricular activities.

  • 1-2 years of related investment banking, Equity Research, or industry experience is an asset.

  • Interest in, or experience within, the commercial real estate sector

  • FINRA exams [SIE, 63, 79] is desired

  • A clearly defined interest in Investment Banking.

  • Strong quantitative skills focused on financial analysis, accounting and financial theory.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high-quality standard.

  • The ability to excel under pressure amid demanding deadlines.

  • The ability to perform effectively in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new situations.

  • Strong presentation skills.
