Job Summary
The Office of Federal Relations is seeking a dedicated and motivated student to support our efforts in policy research. As a student worker in our office, you will have the opportunity to contribute to critical projects that impact and shape federal policies affecting our institution and the broader community.
Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct research on a variety of policy issues relevant to education, research, athletics and healthcare.
  2. Analyze legislative proposals, regulations, and government reports to provide insights and recommendations to the Federal Relations team.
  3. Assist in monitoring federal legislative and regulatory developments, tracking relevant bills, hearings, and policy discussions.
  4. Assist in preparing briefs, memos, and presentations summarizing research findings and policy implications for internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Support the coordination of advocacy efforts, including outreach to congressional offices, federal agencies, and advocacy organizations.
  6. Assist in collaborating with colleagues across departments to gather information, share insights, and coordinate advocacy strategies.
  7. Assist in organizing events, meetings, and briefings with policymakers, university leadership, and external partners.
Qualifications:
  1. Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at the University of Kentucky.
  2. Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and communicate findings effectively.
  3. Familiarity with the legislative process and understanding of policy issues impacting higher education, research, and healthcare preferred.
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  5. Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and experience with research databases and legislative tracking tools is desirable.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
