The Connected Vehicle Services division of SiriusXM builds and delivers software-based services on our connected car platform. The software we develop not only adds convenience to the daily life of our subscribers, but safety and security as well; when the worst happens, our software helps to save lives.
We are in the early days of driving off the monolithic server platforms in favor of high-quality, at-scale microservices in a cloud environment.
We are looking for a motivated and passionate VMWare craftsperson to help us create, extend, and maintain the core of our connected car software platform as we expand past our current offerings in services related to safety, security and convenience in order to take our business to the next level.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide build services and technical support for VMWare clusters and Windows servers in a heterogenous environment.
Provide routine maintenance, patches and upgrades at the OS and hardware level.
Responsible for administration and monitoring of multiple clusters (production, development, staging) measuring system stability, availability and performance in a heterogenous environment including Windows, Linux, and VMware.
Responsible for capacity planning using Zenoss or other capacity planning systems.
Execute change management and audit processes consistent with documented procedures.
Coordinate with local and remote IT team members for monitoring, troubleshooting, and daily production/operations.
Provide technical support for VSphere and troubleshooting system health.
Provide technical and operational support of Windows servers.
Perform reviews with IT staff, ensuring standards and practices are maintained. Work with IT staff on technical projects where infrastructure is needed or required.
Responsible for system engineering documentation being updated and accurate. Including ensuring changes made by external resources, like vendors or contract system integrators.
Execute change management and audit processes consistently and timely within documented procedures.
Coordinate with 24x7 NOC for monitoring, troubleshooting, and daily production/operations.
Show technical leadership and be able to mentor other team members and peers.
Write effective technical documentation on the subject matter.
Participate in engineering engagements with partners, vendors, and customers, being a subject matter expert in the responsible technologies.
Attend and be prepared to contribute to required IT events and meetings on time.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent, relevant experience.
Minimum 5 years in a System Engineer or Administrator role.
5-7 years of experience supporting ESX systems.
5+ years of experience in a Linux/Unix or Windows environment

Ability to work with outside consultants and/or vendors, ensuring outcomes are achieved and standards maintained.

Able to communicate clearly with internal customers and IT leadership.
Works well with others and is a skilled communicator both in writing and verbally.

Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and work under shifting deadlines with potentially ambiguous or nebulous requirements in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to decompose and simplify complex problems so that they can be solved easily.
Willingness to learn new technologies, often very quickly.
Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
Experience supporting ESX clusters running Linux and Windows servers.
Competence in documenting cluster/server administration and support efforts, which includes troubleshooting methodology, work logs, and documenting resolutions.
Hands-on experience with these technologies:
VMware or virtualization technologies
Microsoft Windows Server/Active Directory
EMC Storage Technologies (SAN/NAS) experience is a plus
Commvault experience is a plus
RHEL, AIX experience is a plus
ServiceNow, Zenoss experience is a plus
Microsoft Windows Servers.
Red Hat Linux.
