Akebono Brake Corporation Foundation Brake Test Technician in Farmington Hills, Michigan

Purpose/Summary

This position is responsible for testing, developing and validating new or improved automotive brake component designs or new applications of existing designs.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Disassemble and assemble brake products; calipers, drum brake assemblies, etc.

  • Measure brake components utilizing various types of measurement tools and equipment. Compare measurements against specifications and report all non-conformities.

  • Inspect components for abnormalities. Report all anomalies to engineer or supervisor.

  • Peform basic characteristic and functional type tests, as well as strength and durability tests per engineering specifications (e.g. standard work instructions, customer procedures, or special requests of investigative nature).

  • Analyze data produced through testing to ensure proper setup and execution.

  • Maintain good housekeeping throughout testing process.

  • Maintain schedule of assigned tasks, and inform supervisor / engineer of any setbacks.

  • Perform minor modifications to test samples and/or test fixtures as necessary.

  • Perform test equipment maintenance/repair as necessary.

  • Maintain professional/team oriented attitude and interaction with other associates.

  • Dependable, self-starter, neat and organized. Attention to detail oriented.

  • Computer knowledge to support essential duties and responsibilities (e.g. Microsoft Office including Word & Excel, and e-mail).

  • Respond to testing needs during off hours.

  • Occasionally travel to offsite locations.

  • Contribute to continual improvement activities such as A.P.S. and 4S+1.

  • Adhere to all company safety policies and practices.

  • Ability and willingness to work second shift if required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

    Education and/or Experience (minimum required for the position)

    Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; plus four to six years of experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. 

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to calculate unit conversions, work with fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment to perform job responsibilities.

  • Ability to develop instructions and guidelines to perform functions of the job when necessary.

    Additional Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (Preferred)

  • Data Acquisition knowledge a plus

  • ProLink Control & RevData Software experience a plus

  • Machining and Welding Skills (mill, lathe, band saw, etc.) a plus

  • Forklift Operation License a plus

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Valid Driver’s License
