University at Albany Facilities Construction Manager in Albany, New York

The Facilities Construction Manager is responsible for managing the construction of new and/or renovations of building and spaces. Duties include, but are not limited to, working with and assisting project managers in the planning and organizing of construction projects and facilitating the construction process once construction of the project begins.

Primary Responsibilities;

  • Review proposed construction documents and recommend necessary phasing of the work required to accomplish said work with a minimum of disruption to campus operations.

  • Research and coordinate all known and/or perceived logistical challenges of proposed construction projects with campus constituents.

  • Provide general assistance to the Project Manager / Supervisor in their development of scopes, justifications and estimates for capital, alteration, and rehabilitation projects.

  • Provide general oversight of construction projects and routinely evaluate the construction work to ascertain and ensure that the progress and quality of the work is in accordance with the contract documents.

  • Provide sound judgment in advising and informing supervisors of work-related issues including the progress and quality of construction work.

  • Facilitate the work of outside contractors by coordinating and bringing together the appropriate University Division, department, and contractor for the purposes of ensuring that required disruptions resulting from the work are well planned, fully completed, and safely executed.

  • Assist Project Managers with their management of construction projects that utilize both in-house staff and contracted construction forces for the implementation of construction projects.

  • Provide University Construction Management support for capital projects administered by SUCF/DASNY.

  • Compile and review contractor's applications for payment and recommend amount to be paid in accordance with the progress and quality of the work.

  • Coordinate all necessary construction related testing, inspections, start-up, warranty inspections, O&M training of Plant personnel, project completion and turnover documents.

  • Manage the installation of owner supplied furniture, fixtures, and equipment for completed construction projects.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree plus three (3) years of relevant construction project management experience OR Associates degree plus five (5) years relevant construction management experience OR relevant construction management experience of at least eight (8) years managing multi-trade, multi-million dollar, capital construction projects from bid through project completion may be considered in lieu of a college degree.

  • Experience working within applicable codes, laws, rules and standards regulating design and construction, including the Building Codes of New York State.

  • Experience with institutional and/or commercial building construction management.

  • Effective communication and written skills.

  • Previous experience dealing with construction and construction management practices and procedures.

  • Ability to interpret construction contract documents.

  • Strong technology skills, including experience with Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SUNY Experience

  • Experience working with SUCF and/or DASNY

  • NYS Building Safety Inspector or Code Enforcement Officer
